In cardioid mode, our vocal recordings were crisp and clear, but
more transparent than sculpted, with perhaps slightly more
low-frequency response, akin to what we hear with some competing,
non-DSP models, like the far more expensive $400 Sennheiser
MK 4 Digital. Compared with a DSP mic like the Shure MV51, the Yeti X typically sounds fuller—more mids, more lows,
similarly crisp high-mids. But the MV51 can sound quite different
depending on whether you use it in flat mode or in one of the DSP
presets—in flat mode, it lacks some of the low-mid presence that
the Yeti X is able to pick up. Thus, vocals on the Yeti X may tend
to have a richer sound, before EQ is applied, at least, but that
richness is matched with excellent high-mid and high-frequency
clarity and detail.
